Owls Hall Farm located near Braintree in Essex has recently purchased a trial batch of interlocking solid concrete blocks from retaining wall specialist, Poundfield Precast of Ipswich in Suffolk.

The Betaloc XL system, supplied through Fram Farmers, was chosen by farm owner Craig Finbow for its outstanding flexibility. The 1600 mm long blocks, which have an 800 mm square cross section, can be stacked up to 4 high if required to provide a robust and sturdy wall. At Owls Hall Farm, the initial requirement was for a grain storage area within a recently constructed building. However, once this requirement has finished, the 2.4 tonne blocks can be moved by a suitable forklift for other uses both outside and inside.

As Mr. Finbow points out, “We run a diverse operation at Owls Hall as besides the farm, we also operate an established environmental business. For this reason, it was crucial that the system we employed should be multi-purpose. When not being used for grain or gravel storage, we plan to use the Betablocs for everything from gateway security to protecting buildings during construction work as they are very easy and quick to re-site and require no fixings.”

In addition to its traditional farm activities, Owls Hall has been operating a highly successful environmental business for over 40 years offering sewage treatment, stormwater management and drainage solutions for residential, agricultural  and commercial customers across eastern and southern England.
