Retaining wall heights 1.2m to 6m
Available as an Ultra-Low Carbon Concrete (ULCC) option
Create one solid wall easily
Fast and easy one-person installation
Requiring only a structurally solid base to sit on, the precast concrete wall units can be used in a variety of applications. Units come in eight sizes from 1.2m to 6.0m and can weigh up to 5.2 tonnes.

The Alfabloc®’s patented jointed mechanism aids in the spread of the load horizontally against the units. It is designed to be freestanding for the majority of uses, but can also be ground fixed for higher loading applications.
The Alfabloc® is the ideal solution when you need to avoid mixing materials. Sealant used between the blocks can prevent migration of fine materials to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

As a major precast concrete manufacturer, we recognise the contribution we can make to help our customers lower their carbon footprint and since January 2022 every product currently manufactured by Poundfield Precast is available in an ultra-low carbon concrete option which can save up to 76% in embodied CO2 compared to a conventional concrete.
Find out moreAlfabloc is a precast concrete retaining wall system manufactured by Poundfield Precast, designed for fast, simple installation. Its ‘A’-shaped profile allows it to be freestanding, load-bearing, and relocatable, making it ideal for bulk storage, waste and recycling, and agricultural applications.
Fast installation – suitable foundation required
Freestanding design – easy to move or reconfigure.
High strength and durability – reinforced concrete built to last.
Versatile – suitable for both temporary and permanent walls.
Alfablocs are engineered for heavy-duty use and can retain a wide range of materials including aggregates, soil, waste, grain, silage, feed, and salt. Load capacity depends on wall height and backfill type. Poundfield can provide design calculations and drawings for each project.
Alfabloc units are available in 1.22 m, 2.44 m, 3.05 m, 3.65 m, 4.05m, 4.6m, 5.00m and 6.00m heights.
Yes all of our Alfabloc products can create a corner section or spine wall giving further flexibility and design.
In most cases, Alfablocs can be installed directly on a level concrete pad or hardstanding without the need for foundations. For very high loads or weak ground conditions, our engineers can advise on additional base preparation or anchoring.
Installation is simple: prepare a level surface, lift each unit into position using either the built-in lifting anchors or an approved lifting attachment. Align the units, and lower the next unit into place. Connecting straps then connect each unit to each other and provide a seal between each unit. Installation guides are available.
Yes. Alfablocs are freestanding and designed to be fully movable. They can be lifted, moved, and reconfigured as site layouts change, making them a sustainable and flexible solution.
Our patented designed cover plates are used to join the units together and, once fixed in place, mean the load is spread horizontally against the wall.
Yes. Manufactured using durable, weather-resistant concrete, Alfablocs are ideal for outdoor environments including farms, waste and recycling centres, and construction sites.
Common applications include agricultural storage bays, waste and recycling bunkers, aggregate and salt storage, and divider walls.
Alfablocs should be placed on a smooth, level concrete surface or suitable hardstanding with sufficient bearing capacity to support the wall and retained material.
They can be loaded on one or both sides depending upon your requirements.
Normally most people use Alfablocs as freestanding units. However, for high loading applications the units can be ground-fixed. Alfablocs offer users the best of both worlds. They can be used freestanding and moved around easily as required or can be bolted to the ground for a more permanent solution. Our sales team will be able to advise if fixing is required.
No. The Alfabloc system provides a heavier-duty solution to other freestanding walls such as rocket walls and should not be confused with them.
Alfablocs require minimal maintenance. Periodic inspection for joint integrity and surface wear is usually sufficient.
Alfablocs are delivered on flatbed lorries and can be off-loaded and positioned directly using suitable plant machinery such as a telehandler or forklift.
Yes. Alfablocs are manufactured in the UK under ISO 9001-certified quality systems and comply with Eurocode 2 design principles. Every unit undergoes rigorous quality control before dispatch.
