Precast concrete stairs & steps

Poundfield Precast can manufacture many different types of stair designs from precast concrete, including straight, dog-leg, floating or cantilever. This list is not exhaustive and further options can be discussed with our team and tailored to your requirements.

Stairs are an important structural member of a construction project that provide vertical access between floors. They are designed to bridge larger vertical distances by breaking them down into smaller sections with individual steps or a flight of steps. A step is comprised of a tread and riser, the tread being the horizontal part of the step which a person stands on and the riser being the vertical space (either open or closed) between one step and another.

Precast concrete is one of the best options available when looking to install a staircase in your build. The precast units can be designed to the exact height and width required to connect floors, before being manufactured off-site and delivered ready for installation, when and where you need it.

Our stairs are cast from high quality materials and can be specified as a single precast unit, containing all flights and landings, or as separate precast sections of flights and landings as required.

What are the benefits to precast concrete stairs?

Precast concrete stairs are strong and of a highly durable construction, meaning they will last a long time, needing little maintenance throughout. As they can withstand both hot and cold climatic conditions, precast concrete stairs are suitable for almost any setting.

They can significantly reduce noise caused by people moving around a building or property, as opposed to timber which can offer some movement and creak.

The pouring and curing of precast concrete takes place off-site, which saves construction time allowing other works to continue unimpeded on-site. This reduces the risk of delay to the project.

Shorter installation times are required on site, as the stairs have already been made to the exact dimensions and can be positioned and fixed easily and quickly. In turn this will provide rapid access around the building and between floors for the movement of workers and materials alike, allowing the project to progress swiftly.

Concrete is fire resistant making it a great option for stairs, as they often provide a means of escape from a building. As it is a non-combustible material, the use of concrete ensures that structural integrity is retained.

Precast concrete stairs offer safer access between floors during construction, as opposed to other temporary methods such as ladders and can be fitted with handrails prior to installation for additional protection.

Our precast concrete stairs are created using high-quality moulds, which means they can be replicated time and time again, saving both time and money. It is possible to create a sleek, modern look to the open surface during the manufacturing process, or alternatively the stairs can be used as a base upon which other finishes can be applied, such as timber or tiling.

Manufacture takes place in a controlled environment so key elements such as the concrete mix, temperature, curing and formwork can be monitored closely ensuring consistent quality can be achieved.
