We’ve delivered the final consignments of our latest coastal protection project win – and in superfast time.
After winning key contracts to supply products to schemes at Cockenzie, East Lothian, at Roker Pier and Whitely Bay in north-east England and for the Ipswich Tidal Barrier, we were approached by JT Mackley, the award-winning construction and project delivery company, for their ongoing project at the Shoreham Adur Tidal Walls scheme.
JT Mackley was working as part of Team Van Oord, and on behalf of the Environment Agency, Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership, Adur District Council and West Sussex County Council to fulfil the £31m flood defence scheme.
This involved improvements along 7.2km of defences along the River Adur between Shoreham Old Fort and the A27, which once completed, will significantly reduce flood risk to more than 2,300 properties in Shoreham and East Lancing.
Our role in this prestigious and vital project was to manufacture and deliver 64 capping beams and 112 slipway planks to the home of the Shoreham Sailing Club. The planks required an exposed aggregate finish on the surface along with drainage channels.
Tim Evans, Poundfield’s director of bespoke products, explained “the imperative of making it ‘sure’ at Shoreham. Firstly, this is a very high profiled scheme and JT Mackley is a Shoreham-based business – so local expectations were, rightly, very high indeed.
“Secondly, we were operating to very short lead-in times available to us. We needed to produce nine different moulds and then manufacture the units within just a week, before delivering them over a five-week period.
“I’m proud to be able to report ‘mission accomplished’ on this challenging and exciting commission.”
Angela Spinks, stakeholder communications and liaison officer at JT Mackley expressed delight at Poundfield’s role in the project. “Poundfield has delivered an excellent product and service to our scheme in Shoreham. They produced a bespoke pre-cast slipway that was easy to transport and assemble. Their quality, professionalism and can-do attitude has made them a joy to work with.”
Tim Evans explained how this Shoreham project exemplified the company’s business approach. “We believe in pushing ourselves hard to get even the toughest and most complicated tasks completed to the highest standards of product quality and customer service. This is especially so in our growing numbers of coastal protection wins.”
“Poundfield rarely says ‘no’ to a project and when we say ‘yes’, you can be sure we will deliver.”
