Bespoke concrete bridges

In the UK, concrete has increased in popularity since the latter part of the 20^th century. It is estimated that at least 75% of the Highways Agency concrete bridge stock has been built since 1960. Naturally durable, concrete is versatile and has a high level of design flexibility.

Prestressed concrete has now largely superseded reinforced concrete as the standard structural form.

Quick and easy to install, precast concrete beams and decks can tie into existing abutments. Manufactured to various shapes and sizes, the beams can be cast with lifting points to make for easy lifting and fitting.

An example of our concrete beams being used in bridging can be seen in the picturesque Suffolk village of Grundisburgh. Working with Kier Highway Services and Suffolk County Council we provided 14 reinforced precast concrete components for a replacement bridge deck across the river Deben.
