Poundfield six: course successes shows safety and profitability “go hand-in hand”
Half a dozen employees of Poundfield Products Ltd, the Suffolk-based market-leading manufacturer of quality precast concrete, received their certificates from the prestigious Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) this week after successfully passing its Managing Safely course.
Having completed the four-day accredited course at Park City Consulting Ltd. in Colchester, Tina Dawson – production administrator, Tony Deane – yard manager, Sam Paterson – production superviser, Adam Rembelski – production team leader, John Sheppard – production foreman and Chris Skippins – quality control manager, who achieved top marks for the course, were presented with their certificates by Poundfield Products managing director Mark Jardine.
The IOSH Managing Safely course delivers practical step-by-step guidance with a business focus that is hands-on and jargon-free. The innovative format and content aims to inspire managers to embed safety and health throughout their entire organisation.
According to Matt Moss, commercial director at Poundfield Products, “creating a safety first culture is one of our priorities as a company whose values are based on quality; quality of production, quality of customer service and quality of employment.
“With over 70 staff working in a busy and highly skilled manufacturing operation, we have a particular duty to ensure that everyone is aware of their responsibilities to themselves, their work colleagues and the company as a whole.
“Safety and profitability are not opposites: they go hand-in hand.
“Having IOSH accredited managers is good for safety and good for our business and its reputation and I’m delighted that all six of these managers passed with flying colours. Well done to them!”
Chris Skippins added “this IOSH Managing Safely course has given me a much greater awareness and confidence in sorting out issues before they become problems and in identifying ways that both promote best practice and enhance what Poundfield Products stands for.”
As part of its training investment programme, the company is scheduled to send another batch of staff onto the Managing Safely course later in the year.
Both Mark Jardine and Matt Moss are accredited practitioners, having successfully attended the IOSH Leading Safely course.
Poundfield Products continues to expand its market reach in an increasingly diverse range of sectors. The company’s ongoing investment in its staff reflects its present sales success and future ambitions.
