Paul celebrates 23 years at Poundfields

How does it feel to reach this milestone of 23 years with the company?

It seems a long time ago! I can remember the day I came in for the interview and the next thing I knew, I was here working. I was looking for a job to get off shift work. Poundfield gave me the hours I wanted without having to work nights.

What was Poundfield like when you started?

It was a small family business, completely different to what it is now. I’ve seen many changes in 23 years.

We’ve gone from having just one shed to four. We had no cranes, just one small yard for holding the stocks. To see it evolve has been fascinating, from when I started to where it is now and meeting all the different people I’ve met that have come and gone. When I started here, the business employed 9 staff, and now we have over 90, and I’ve met every single person.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

Looking back at all you’ve achieved during the week. putting schedules together, and all the loads you’ve sent on their way.

What significant changes have you seen?

Health and Safety has to be the biggest one. We’ve made big improvements, and it’s really encouraging to see that.

There has been a lot of change since day one. We went from producing 15 Alphablocs a day, and now the type of precast leaving the site covers beam and block flooring, a much wider range of retaining walls, and bespoke precast for major infrastructure projects.

What are your fondest memories?

I have a lot of happy memories of the team bonding events we’ve had, like the barbecues and company get togethers. We’ve had some good laughs as well as getting the job done, and I’ve spent many happy hours here. I remember many late evenings sorting out jobs, being here till 11:30pm, but I’ve always been well looked after. I feel valued, and I feel like I still have something to give.

It’s a great company to work for, and unless something drastic happens to me I look forward to working at Poundfield until I retire. I’ve had some good times and have met some lovely people throughout my years.
