Bridge Deck for KIER Highway Services

Poundfield Product’s long standing relationship with Suffolk County Council and Kier Highway Services has recently involved the production of 14 reinforced Precast Concrete components for a replacement bridge deck across the river Deben in the centre of the picturesque Suffolk village of Grundisburgh.

The bridge had failed a routine assessment carried out by Suffolk County Council and it was deemed necessary to replace the entire deck through the Suffolk Highways Contract.

Manufactured by Poundfield Precast Bespoke projects division, the components consisted of a pair of edge beams, six deck beams and six sill beams with a total weight of approximately 35 tonne.

On this occasion, Kier Highway Services undertook both the design and construction of the new bridge on behalf of Suffolk County Council for which it has an on-going contract to maintain its entire bridge stock across the county, along with all other highway services.

Commenting on the project, Kier’s structures works manager said: “We have been working closely with Poundfield for about seven years and have been able to develop an excellent relationship. We strive to use local suppliers whenever possible and the quality of Poundfield’s components and the service they provide has always been spot-on.”
