Storage Area

When award-winning nursery Majestic Trees was looking to construct a  secure storage area on its 20 acre site, Poundfield Precast of Ipswich was chosen for the supply of 24 pre-stressed concrete L-Blocs plus 4 corner sections.

Majestic Trees, based near St. Albans, opened in 2002 by Steve McCurdy and specialises in the growing, delivery and planting of high quality specimen trees from 4 to 40 ft tall with a choice of over 400 varieties.

As part of the company’s continuous investment programme, a new centralised storage area has recently been built to house racking as well as pallets of Air-Pots which are used to contain and grow-on bare rooted trees above, rather than in-ground.

The storage area, which measures 26 x 9 m has been constructed using specially ordered 2 m wide L-Blocs from Poundfield rather than its standard 1 m wide versions. Also, because Majestic Trees wanted to incorporate the walls into the concrete base and not bolt them down, Poundfield supplied the L-Blocs with exposed re-bar in the feet. This base slab incorporates a central drainage channel designed to carry water to an extensive rainwater harvesting system used for irrigating

Commenting on new area, Mr. McCurdy said: “Poundfield Precast were great to deal with and besides offering a courteous and professional service were also able to work within a tight time frame and deliver our order in three trips to suit our speed of build.”
