Block and beam flooring contract awarded to Poundfield Precast

Poundfield Precast of Ipswich in Suffolk, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of precast concrete retaining walls and flooring systems, has recently supplied nearly 3500 linear metres of pre-stressed concrete beams to Bristol based CBS Precast.

CBS Precast has a contract to design, supply and install some 2000 sq m of block and beam flooring on behalf of specialist care home builder Castleoak Care Partnership where it will form the base for a new 80 bed care home currently under construction in Bury St. Edmunds.

Glastonbury Court is a large timber framed building and is being constructed on traditional footings with an average depth of 2 m to cope with difficult ground conditions. The block and beam floors are being laid by crane onto 600 mm block footings prior to the application of a sealing slurry to fill all gaps and imperfections.

Commenting on the choice of Poundfield, CBS Precast director Chris Bailey said: “We have been working with the company for the last three years and have placed orders for large quantities of 225 mm and 150 mm deep beams for use on some ten Castleoak projects across East Anglia. Poundfield has always been able to cope with short lead times and tight deadlines which, in turn, has enabled us to achieve our installation schedules.”
